1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. has welcomed a new batch of bright and talented students who will spend 10 weeks working on various projects across the business. They will not only learn from their mentors and peers, but also share their insights and ideas to help the company grow and innovate.
We spoke to some of our interns to find out more about them, their roles, and their passions. And since we’re approaching the Summer Games, we also asked about their olympic dreams!
Meet Shiqi, Jason, Dibya, Joe, and Sophie:
Shiqi, Operations Intern, Jericho, N.Y.,
Getting to Know Shiqi: I am a junior at Fordham Gabelli School of Business, majoring in Global Business with a concentration in Digital Media and Technology. I stay motivated in my work by staying curious and continuously seeking for opportunities to learn and grow.
Shiqi’s Role: My role is Operations Intern for the Florist team. I will be working on building reports and performing data analysis to support the team’s operational efficiency. My goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of how to utilize data to make business insights.
Shiqi’s Olympic Event: If I could compete in any Olympic sport, it would be running. I like how running helps me to learn that I am able to push through the urge to give up and strive to get to the end of the track.
Jason, IT Intern, Jericho, N.Y.,
Getting to Know Jason: I’m a student at Stony Brook University majoring in Information Systems, and I would like to say I am a pretty easy-going person. I believe having the right people around me helps me stay motivated; seeing their success makes me want to put in more effort.
Jason’s Role: I am a software developer intern, under the E-commerce Application team. This summer I am working on building a new system to process our product feeds.
Jason’s Olympic Event: I have always been a fan of Olympic weightlifting, although I am nowhere near the strength of the athletes, it is pretty cool seeing them throw around 500+ pounds.
Dibya, Enterprise Marketing Intern, Jericho, N.Y.,
Getting to Know Dibya: I am a rising junior at Cornell University, studying Industrial and Labor Relations with a minor in Business. One of my biggest hobbies is singing! I’m a member of an all-female acapella group at school called Nothing But Treble – it’s a big part of my life on campus.
Dibya’s Role: This summer, I’ll be working as an Enterprise Marketing Intern. My role will focus on strategies that can be implemented in the new fiscal year to gain more attraction towards our loyalty and marketplace program. I’m aiming to take this summer to gain a deep understanding of the industry, the market trends, and the customer base that the enterprise operates in and focus on developing the ability to analyze data and metrics to inform marketing strategies.
Dibya’s Olympic Sport: Gymnastics has always been an inspiring Olympic sport in my opinion, not only because I have the experience of competitive stunt and tumbling, but also because of the drive, passion, and dedication most Olympic level gymnastics take. Gymnasts also create a very supportive environment for one another that I would love to be a part of.
Joe, Vendor Relations Intern, Jericho, N.Y.,
Getting to Know Joe: I’m going into my junior year at the University at Buffalo and enjoy going to the gym and watching Netflix. I stay motivated by keeping my goals in mind and knowing that every day is one step closer to achieving them.
Joe’s Role: My role for the summer is in Vendor Relations. A critical task I will be working on this summer is updating the operating procedures list which gives step by step instructions on how to complete important reports and tasks. A personal goal I hope to achieve at the end of this 10-week program is to learn everything I can about Vendor Relations at 1-800-Flowers.
Joe’s Olympic Sport: If I could compete in an Olympic sport, it would be wrestling because I love the sport and wrestled up until COVID struck while I was in high school.
Sophie, Growth Marketing Intern, Jericho, N.Y.,
Getting to Know Sophie: I am a rising Junior from Cornell University studying Anthropology with minors in Business and Psychology. I believe that passion drives motivation. As a result, I try to seek out projects that I feel passionate about, as this excitement pushes me to excel in my work.
Sophie’s Role: I’m working on the Growth Marketing team, helping to launch new collections, evaluate and enrich products, analyze trends in customer response surveys, and assist with financial operations.
Sophie’s Olympic Sport: I have always enjoyed watching the gymnastics teams, so if I could compete in any sport, it would definitely be that!
We are excited to have these interns on board and look forward to seeing their achievements and growth. Stay tuned for more news about our interns!
